One reader of this blog said they’re having a hard time keeping up on the new characters since this blog went silent. To catch y’all up*:
Mango House residents:
– Kid Marine: 21-year-old who broke his back and was given 4 days to clear out of Camp Pendleton with his 21-year-old wife and 2 dogs. Now works at the tactical counter selling assault weapons at a newly opened gun store/range in town.
– Victoria: his 19-year-old wife, now with jobs in a restaurant and at Victoria’s Secret (hence the nickname).
– Mr. Smart: Marine in his 50’s who I picked up from the VA rehab center in Tampa. Mom just died, estranged from two adult sons, overcoming opioid addiction, wants to buy a Porsche (just as soon as he finds a job).
– Mr. Imam: bodybuilder salesman who used to work at Marvel comics, now excited to be a manager at Wal-Mart. Turkish: was formerly in training to become a Muslim cleric.
Ca’d’Kommor residents:
– Ed: late 60’s Vietnam-era Army vet, who was the den mother for a halfway house of addicts and homeless vets. Likes gardening, cooking, cleaning, and bossing everyone around.
– Joe: mid-50’s Marines vet, who works construction and tells Ed to mind his own business.
Good Cop house:
– The Good Cop: an upstanding mama’s boy deputy, who believes every tinfoil-hat theory out there. Also lives by his values, loves cats, has taken me in for no charge, and forces me to go running every weekend.
Cats:
– Roof cat: the cat who greets Good Cop or I every morning and night; anytime we’re on his front porch, actually.
– Mama cat: the cat in my yard who looks like a Bengal and is waaay skittish and always gets knocked up.
– Gray Kitten: her kitten.
– Black Kitten: her other kitten.
